Steady: A Walking Aid for Elderly Dogs

Steady by Seungha Baek, Chaewon Lee and Jungmin Park

Dogs age just like humans. As they grow older, they face mobility challenges, such as disc problems and patellar dislocation, despite their enduring curiosity and vitality. The goal is to find a solution that honors dogs‘ instincts and freedom while supporting their mobility.

Research on the walking experiences of dogs and their owners, along with assessments of their needs and observations of canine behavior, informed the design direction. These insights guided the design‘s refinement through multiple prototyping tests. The walks of elderly dogs and their human companions are deeply rooted in the power of bonding. This connection is captured through pipe sculptures that serve as walking aids for dogs and specialized clothing for their owners.

The brand Steady is dedicated to enhancing the spirited exploration of senior dogs, working to transform the negative perceptions often associated with aging.

Steady received international prizes such as iF Design Student Award und Spark Design Award Gold and was featured inDezeen Magazine
