Brain Research

Over an entire lifespan, the brain's stem cells tirelessly produce new daughter cells that develop into new nerve cells. The question, which information remains in the mother stem cell or is passed on to its daughter cell is fundamental to the lifelong generation of new neurons, a process that Prof. Dr. Sebastian Jessberger investigates at the University of Zurich. The stage director Leonie Böhm visited him in his lab, and out of their dialogue about kinship and peaceful coexistence of different species this design emerged.

"For me, ‘Staying with the trouble’ (Donna J. Haraway) means staying in difficult situations, even if they are not easy to solve and one's own commitment can be as transformative as the transition between cell generations." — Leonie Böhm
